Laser & Red Light Therapy

Low Level Laser Therapy (Class 3b), also known as cold laser therapy, is a completely non invasive treatment that helps to reduce pain and inflammation, and speed up the healing process. Unlike some laser treatments, low level laser therapy does not heat the cells in the body (thermal reaction), which can be destructive, instead, the laser operates with a photochemical reaction, similar to photosynthesis. Using both laser and LED technology, wavelengths in the light stimulate the cells in the damaged area encouraging regeneration and natural healing. Laser therapy  is effective for penetrating deep beneath the skin and is able to treat bones, joints, deep muscles, bursa, tendons and ligaments etc.

Red Light Therapy harnesses the healing power of red and infrared light at specific wavelengths and frequencies proven to be effective in accelerating natural healing of the body, reducing swelling and inflammation, stimulating the immune system and relieving pain. Cells that are injured can actually be rejuvenated by light.

Red light is very beneficial in treating problems close to the surface such as wounds, cuts, scars, trigger points and acupuncture points, and is particularly effective in treating infections.

How is the treatment applied?

For both laser and red light therapy, the treatment is carried out in your horse's own stable, reducing the stress of travelling and enabling the horse to be more relaxed. The procedure is quick, simple and painless and the horse is usually unaware that any treatment is even being performed. The Therapist will simply hold the head of the unit close to the area for treatment for a few minutes, and the light from the unit will penetrate the affected areas. Once the therapy procedure is finished, the horse can return to it's normal routine. Depending on the ailment sometimes more than one treatment may be required, but this will be discussed.
