What Happens During A Bit & Bridle Consultation?
UNDERSTANDING THE HORSE'S HISTORY
The consultation begins with a thorough discussion of your horse's history, including any current ridden challenges. This helps establish clear goals for the appointment.

ASSESSING CONFORMATION AND MUSCULAR DEVELOPMENT
A detailed evaluation of your horse's conformation and muscular development follows, focusing on a therapautic perspective. This assessment provides insights into how your horse uses it's body and helps identify areas of asymmetry or imbalance that could affect bit and bridle fit.

REVIEWING THE CURRENT BIT AND BRIDLE SETUP
If applicable, Alison will review your horse's current bit and bridle setup, analysing its fit and how it may impact your horse's comfort and performance. This step identifies any adjustments or improvements that may be needed.

TRIAL OF APPROPRIATE BITS AND BRIDLES
Based on the assessments, suitable bits, bridles and setups are trialled. Alison will closely monitor your horse's biomechanics, behaviour, and rider feedback during each change to find the best solution.

PROVIDING PERSONLISED RECOMMENDATIONS
At the end of the session, Alison will provide personalised recommendations tailored to your horse. There is no obligation to purchase anything on the day; Alison can share product details for you to source independently or arrange for delivery if items are not in stock.

Consultation Costs
Initial Bit & Bridle Fit Consultation
(1.5 - 3hrs)
£80
A bit & bridle consultation starts with discussing the rider's goals and any challenges. The current tack is evaluated for fit and condition, followed by an assessment of the horse's oral health and head anatomy. Different bit and bridle options are tested for comfort and fit. A mounted session observes the horse's response to adjustments. Final recommendations and adjustments are made, focusing on performance and comfort. The session concludes with a summary, care advice and questions
Stable Only Bit & Bridle Fit Consultation
£60
A stable-only consultation is perfect for a young horse not yet under saddle or one returning to work following an injury. This approach ensures that the horse's progress or movement is not limited by improper bit or bridle fit. The session is NON-RIDDEN and focuses solely on evaluating the horse's head and mouth anatomy to identify any areas of sensitivity or potential discomfort. The goal is to ensure the tack supports the horse's education and physical development without causing restriction or pain.
Bridle Fit Only
(No bit assessment)
£50
A bridle-only consultation focuses on assessing the horse's head and mouth anatomy. The current tack is evaluated for fit, condition and comfort. If necessary, different bridle options are tested for comfort and fit. This NON-RIDDEN service is ideal for identifying pressure points and selecting a bridle that supports the horse's comfort.
Travel costs may be added to your consultation fee, for all appointments outside of a 25 mile radius of ST18. Appointments will be combined or shared to minimise travel expenses where feasible.
